A body lift, also known as a belt lipectomy, is a procedure that targets sagging body contours, often caused by aging or significant weight loss. As skin loses elasticity over time, the mid-section can lose its firmness and shape. This procedure removes excess skin and fat from areas like the abdomen, waist, thighs, buttocks, and hips, offering a more youthful, toned appearance. Liposuction may also be combined with a body lift to enhance results.
General procedure
The body lift procedure is tailored to each patient based on body type and desired results. Typically, an incision is made along the upper or inner thigh, extending to the waistline. For more extensive lifts, the incision may circle the waist and lower back. To adjust the buttocks and thighs, an incision is made at the crease of the buttocks. Excess skin and fat are then removed, and the skin is pulled tight and sutured for a smoother, firmer appearance. The entire procedure can last between 3 to 7 hours and is performed under general anesthesia.
Recovery Process
After surgery, patients are typically advised to rest and limit movement to promote healing and speed up recovery. A surgical garment is worn immediately after the procedure to reduce swelling and provide support. Drainage tubes may be used to remove excess fluids. While the scars from the incisions are permanent, they are strategically placed to minimize visibility. Some patients experience mild pain, which can be managed with oral medication. Recovery time varies depending on the extent of the procedure, but most patients can return to work within a few weeks. To reduce the risk of complications, it's important to carefully follow the post-operative instructions provided by Dr. Rodriguez.
