Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the most common questions patients have about plastic surgery. If you have any additional questions or would like to schedule an appointment, we’d be happy to assist you.

  • Is plastic surgery safe?

Every surgical procedure carries some risk, whether for medical or cosmetic reasons. Our expert team is committed to ensuring a smooth operation by thoroughly reviewing your medical history and current health before determining if surgery is safe for you. To accurately assess potential risks, it’s essential to disclose all relevant information. We take every precaution to minimize complications and prioritize your safety.

  • How do I know if plastic surgery is right for me?

Several key factors should be considered when determining if plastic surgery is right for you. Your overall health is crucial—being in good health reduces the risk of complications and promotes a smooth recovery. Next, consider your motivations. Many patients find that plastic surgery enhances their appearance and boosts self-esteem. Lastly, maintain realistic expectations. Plastic surgery is both a science and an art, and results may not be perfect. Setting reasonable goals and discussing them thoroughly during your consultation will help ensure a satisfying outcome.

  • Can I have several procedures performed simultaneously?

It’s common for plastic surgeons to perform multiple procedures in a single operation, allowing for more comprehensive results while reducing overall costs for anesthesia and operating room fees. However, combining too many procedures can increase the risk of complications. The decision depends on factors such as the type and extent of surgery, operating time, and your age and health. Ultimately, your surgeon will determine whether combining procedures is safe and appropriate for you.

  • Does it matter how old I am?

There is no set age limit for plastic surgery, as procedures vary widely and are tailored to individual needs. People of all ages can benefit from image-enhancing treatments, including some procedures designed for young children. However, it’s important to understand that plastic surgery has its limitations—it cannot reverse aging or solve every concern. What works for one person may not be suitable for another. Our goal is to ensure you have a safe, personalized, and successful experience.

  • What happens during my initial consultation?

During your consultation, we will discuss your goals, review your medical history and current health, and determine if the procedure is right for you. This is the perfect time to ask any questions so you feel fully prepared, both mentally and emotionally. We will also go over expected results using photos or computer imaging. Once a final decision is made, you will sign an informed consent form, confirming that you understand the procedure, potential risks, and possible side effects.

  • How long will it take to recover from my surgery?

Post-operative care typically involves rest and limited movement to promote healing and reduce recovery time. Recovery varies by procedure and individual, but bruising usually fades within days, and most swelling subsides within weeks. By carefully following our post-operative instructions, you’ll be able to resume normal activities quickly. While scars are permanent, we take care to place them discreetly so they are barely noticeable. The full effects of plastic surgery become more apparent over time, with some procedures requiring up to a year for your body to fully adjust. During your consultation, we’ll review your expected recovery timeline and post-operative care in detail.

  • Will my insurance cover the surgery?

Insurance typically does not cover cosmetic procedures, but most providers will cover surgeries considered medically necessary.

  • Should my surgeon have privileges at a local hospital?

Absolutely! Always ensure your surgery is performed in an accredited facility or hospital.

  • What should I do to prepare for my procedure?

It is essential to quit smoking at least two weeks before and two weeks after your surgery. Additionally, avoid taking aspirin, aspirin products, arthritis medications, blood thinners, Vitamin E, fish oil, or herbal supplements. If you're taking any of these under your doctor's guidance, make sure to consult with them before stopping any medications.

  • Is Dr. Daniela Rodriguez board-certified?

Yes! She is board-certified by The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). ASPS members are specifically trained in plastic surgery and perform surgeries exclusively in accredited medical facilities and hospitals. They follow a strict code of ethics and meet continuing education requirements, including patient safety techniques. Unfortunately, many physicians claim to be board-certified, but there are various types of boards. The American Board of Plastic Surgery or The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada are the respected boards that require doctors to pass both oral and written exams, graduate from an accredited medical school, and complete at least five years of surgical training, including an accredited plastic surgery residency. Plastic surgeons are skilled in both cosmetic and reconstructive procedures.

  • Does Dr. Rodriguez work with out-of-town patients?

Yes, this happens quite often. Many patients travel to Michigan specifically for surgery with Dr. Rodriguez. As long as the patient stays until they feel it's completely safe to return home, which could range from a few days to several weeks, depending on the procedure performed.

  • Does Dr. Rodriguez speak multiple languages?

Dr. Rodriguez is fluent in English, Spanish, and French.
