An arm lift, or brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin from the upper arms. Often, patients who have undergone massive weight loss experience loose skin, commonly referred to as "bat wings." The procedure helps create smoother, tighter skin. Performed under IV sedation or general anesthesia, incisions are made on the inner arm, extending from the armpit to the elbow to remove the excess skin.
Absorbable sutures are used, and while the incision lines are permanent, they fade over time. Healing typically takes about two weeks, and patients wear a compression garment with sleeves during recovery. After healing, patients can confidently wear sleeveless tops, free from the "wings."
